Meet Alan Johnson
Alan Johnson is an experienced educational leader, Ofsted Inspector, and nationally recognised school improvement professional with a distinguished career spanning secondary education in both the United Kingdom and overseas. His leadership experience has been developed across a wide range of educational contexts, including large comprehensive schools, small independent schools, mixed and single-sex settings, and schools operating in highly challenging circumstances. Over the course of his career, he has served successfully as a headteacher, local authority adviser, and educational improvement partner, establishing a strong reputation for driving transformational change and securing sustained school improvement.
Alan has particular expertise in inclusion, pastoral development, curriculum innovation, safeguarding, and provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. He is recognised for his ability to combine strategic leadership with practical school improvement, supporting schools to strengthen culture, improve outcomes, and develop coherent systems that place pupils’ needs at the centre of decision-making.
He has led a number of significant initiatives that have received regional and national recognition. Alan became the first headteacher of a Cyber School Hub, working in partnership with the National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ, helping to pioneer innovative approaches to cyber education and digital resilience within schools. He also led a Mental Health Pathfinder School in partnership with the National Health Service, developing integrated approaches to mental health support and early intervention for young people.
A highly effective and strategic leader, Alan has a proven track record of improving outcomes through curriculum redesign, attendance improvement, financial recovery planning, organisational restructuring, and leadership development.
