Meet Gayle Adam
With over 30 years in education — including 27 focused on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and 16 as a headteacher — I bring extensive leadership experience across a range of specialist settings. A qualified NPQH holder and former Executive Headteacher in Brighton & Hove, I have most recently served as Head of an Outstanding independent special school in the South East, delivering high-quality education and holistic support for ASD learners aged 4–19.
My expertise spans school improvement, mentoring and coaching new headteachers, and quality assurance. I have a detailed knowledge of the Independent School Standards and regulatory frameworks. I am a trained School Improvement Partner and an active member of a national SIP network, supporting schools to raise standards, strengthen leadership capacity, and deliver inclusive, high-impact provision tailored to the needs of children and young people with additional needs.
Over the course of my career, I have worked across a variety of specialist settings — including provision for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), complex needs and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). My experience encompasses both maintained and independent sectors, with responsibility for 4–19 provision and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within each.
I have supported schools through inspection readiness, advised on SEND strategy and compliance, and mentored new headteachers to build strategic leadership capacity and confidence. My approach is collaborative, reflective, and evidence-informed, focused on empowering schools to deliver sustainable improvement and achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
