Safeguarding Policy

How Jarvis Education safeguards and promotes the welfare of children and young people across the settings we work in.

1. Introduction

Jarvis Education Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This policy outlines the framework by which the company ensures compliance with current safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including:

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children
  • The Children Act 1989 and 2004
  • Education Act 2002 (Section 175)
  • The Equality Act 2010

All consultants working on behalf of Jarvis Education Ltd are required to act in accordance with this policy and demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding at all times.

2. Purpose

This policy ensures that Jarvis Education Ltd:

  • Creates a safe environment for children and young people.
  • Takes appropriate action to safeguard children when working in educational settings.
  • Meets statutory requirements and maintains best practice in recruitment, training and operations.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, education consultants and contractors working on behalf of Jarvis Education Ltd.

4. Safeguarding Statement

Jarvis Education Ltd recognises that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and prioritises the needs of the child in all decision-making.

5. Key Responsibilities

5.1 Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Jarvis Education Ltd has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsible for:

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensuring all safeguarding policies and procedures are followed.
  • Liaising with educational settings and local safeguarding partners as required.

5.2 Education Consultants

All education consultants working with Jarvis Education Ltd must:

  • Hold a current enhanced DBS disclosure and carry evidence of this while working.
  • Have up-to-date safeguarding training, refreshed annually.
  • Adhere to the safeguarding procedures of the schools and educational settings they visit.
  • Immediately report any safeguarding concerns to the DSL.

6. Recruitment and Vetting

Jarvis Education Ltd ensures that all consultants are appropriately vetted and comply with safer recruitment practices. This includes:

  • Enhanced DBS checks, verified and documented.
  • Two professional references, validated prior to engagement.
  • Verification of right to work in the UK.
  • Assessment of professional competence and safeguarding knowledge.

7. Training and Induction

All consultants must:

  • Complete safeguarding induction training before working on behalf of Jarvis Education Ltd.
  • Participate in annual safeguarding training to remain compliant with statutory requirements.

8. Safeguarding Procedures

8.1 Reporting Concerns

  • All consultants must report safeguarding concerns to the DSL immediately.
  • In an emergency where a child is in immediate danger, consultants must contact emergency services (999) and inform the DSL as soon as possible.

8.2 Record Keeping

  • Concerns must be documented accurately and promptly.
  • Records will be securely stored in line with GDPR regulations.

9. Working in Educational Settings

Consultants are expected to:

  • Follow the safeguarding policies and procedures of each educational setting.
  • Respect confidentiality while sharing information appropriately to safeguard children.
  • Act as positive role models and maintain professional boundaries.

10. Allegations Against Consultants

Any allegation made against a consultant will be taken seriously and dealt with in line with statutory guidance. Jarvis Education Ltd will:

  • Report the allegation to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
  • Suspend the consultant if necessary while investigations are carried out.

11. Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to updates in safeguarding legislation and guidance.
