Talk is how pupils think out loud, build understanding, and find their voice. Oracy, the ability to speak well and learn through talk, is rising up the agenda, and it’s a powerful driver of learning and confidence. This training helps your staff use classroom talk purposefully, so every pupil learns to articulate their ideas.
Below, we explain what our oracy training involves, and how it helps pupils learn through high-quality talk.
It’s practical training that helps teachers develop pupils’ speaking and listening and use talk to deepen learning. We cover structured discussion, high-quality questioning, talk routines, and how to build oracy across the curriculum, not just in English.
We draw on the research linking talk to learning and give staff simple routines that make classroom discussion purposeful rather than chaotic.
It’s designed for all education settings: maintained schools, academies, and multi-academy trusts, Alternative Provisions, and SEND Units/Hubs. It works for whole-school INSET, subject teams, or early years and primary staff building talk from the start. Trusts often run it across schools for a shared oracy approach.
Many schools ask for it to raise standards, close vocabulary gaps, and build pupils’ confidence and communication skills.
We shape the content around your priorities. You can book a whole-school INSET, a group session, or focused one-to-one support. Our most common areas include:
Pupils who articulate their thinking understand it better. Purposeful talk lifts learning across subjects.
Structured talk builds academic language, especially for disadvantaged pupils who need it most.
Pupils learn to express ideas clearly, a skill that serves them well beyond school.
We turn oracy into simple, repeatable routines. Staff know exactly how to run purposeful talk.
We show staff how to bring quieter pupils and those with SEND into the conversation.
Better talk feeds better writing. Pupils who can say it can more often write it.
Every classroom uses the same talk routines, so pupils experience oracy across the school.
Every participant comes away with more than notes. They get:
We link talk to learning and give staff routines they can use straight away.
We shape the strategies around your phase, subjects, and priorities.
Book an INSET, a subject session, or coaching. We adapt to you.
We work only with education settings. We know how powerful talk is for learning, and how to make oracy purposeful rather than noisy. Our training helps pupils learn through talk, with every decision staying focused on children.
